Saying Thank You TODAY
Today I was impacted by a concept ... one that is really not new. However, I have missed many opportunities and I want to grab some now - and be more aware of them in the future!
I read the obituary and tributes to a man that I knew many years ago. Over and over, I read how he had influenced many people and actually changed the course of some lives. The "thank you's" that I read spanned years - before and after his life altering accident. Then I thought of a couple that I knew that encouraged many families who had to walk through a difficult season when their "different-abled" child was born. I thought about my daughter who wrote a Thank You note to a teacher - a teacher who imparted worth, confidence and identity to a very hurt and vulnerable child.
Recently, I was privileged to hear tributes to my 90-year old mother, my daughter - who has survived (especially my "oops" as a parent), and stories about my 20+ years of work at The Inn. We laughed as we said "what a blessing to be able to hear those things while we are still alive!". Yes, the "sappy" showed as I cried thinking about so many precious people and situations.
May I please remind you of this as well?! There are people who desperately need to receive our "thank you"! What an encouragement and a blessing it would be for them to hear. Their motivation is not to receive the thank you notes, the phone calls or the accolades - that's just who they are.
